2. Steps for Managing Stable Tachycardia

2.1. Does the patient have a pulse?

2.2. Yes, the patient has a pulse. Complete the following:

2.3. Assess the patient using the primary and secondary surveys.

2.4. Check the airway, breathing, and circulation

2.5. Give oxygen and monitor oxygen saturation.

2.6. Get an ECG.

2.7. Identify rhythm.

2.8. Check blood pressure.

2.9. Identify and treat reversible causes.

3. Patient has significant signs or symptoms of tachycardia AND they are being caused by the arrhythmia.

3.1. The tachycardia is unstable. Immediate cardioversion is indicated.

4. Patient has a pulseless ventricular tachycardia.

4.1. Follow the Pulseless Arrest Algorithm. Deliver unsynchronized high-energy shocks.

5. Patient has polymorphic ventricular tachycardia AND the patient is unstable.

5.1. Treat the rhythm as ventricular fibrillation. Deliver unsynchronized high-energy shocks.
