N.C. Gen. Stat. § 31-3.1 states that \"no will is valid unless it complies with the requirements prescribed therefor by this Article.\" N.C. Gen. Stat. § 31-3.2 allows personal property to be devised by an attested will or a holographic will. Section 31-3.2 also allows for personal property, but not real property, to be devised by a nuncupative will.\n

In general an attested will must comply with four main statutorily determined requiremnts. An attested will must be (1) signed by the testator, (2) in the presence of (3) at least two disinterested witnesses, (4) who themselves have signed the will either in the testator\'s presence (the majority rule) or within a reasonable time after witnessing the testator\'s signing of the will (the minority rule).
