Atlas

1. The art of astronomy was used by sailors and farmers in their everyday lives. Sailors used it to navigate the seas and farmers used it to help measuring the seasons.

2. Atlas became the god who turned the heaven on their axis, causing the stars to revolve.

3. Later on, Atlas was transformed into the stony Atlas mountain by Perseus using the Gorgon's head.

4. Atlas was a leader of the Titans in their war against Zeus and after their defeat he was condemned to carry the heavens upon his shoulders.

5. Atlas was also the god who instructed mankind in the art of astronomy.
