technology is destroying friendships.
by Elizabeth Zadel
1. Technology can affect friendships because you are isolated online and most teens text and interact on their phone so they might get less interested in getting face to face with each other.
1.1. .Brookings Institution and the Woodrow Wilson Center at Princeton University, Kaveri Subrahmanyam and Patricia M. Greenfield, psychologists at California State University, Los Angeles, and U.C.L.A. respectively, noted: “Initial qualitative evidence is that the ease of electronic communication may be making teens less interested in face-to-face communication with their friends. More research is needed to see how widespread this phenomenon is and what it does to the emotional quality of a relationship.” (By HILARY STOUTAPRIL)
2. Technology can also affect empathy because it can be hard to show body language and facial expressions online.
2.1. "today’s youths may be missing out on experiences that help them develop empathy, understand emotional nuances and read social cues like facial expressions and body language. With children’s technical obsessions starting at ever-younger ages — even kindergartners will play side by side on laptops during play dates — their brains may eventually be rewired and those skills will fade further," some researchers believe. 3. sharing to much online can lower self esteem
3.1. Rosen also worries "some kids might mistake the “friends” on there social media for true friends. In tough times, you don’t need someone to like your picture or share your tweet. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand." ("Is Technology Killing Our Friendships" pg, 18)
