Define The Problem
by Libby Ye
1. My decision has affected my mom because she will know that I have sacrificed the money, and will not treat me as a child because I am responsible and take consequences for my actions
2. My decision has affected my life because I have realised that no problem is unsolvable, and I have chose and done the right thing by being honest and sacrificed my pocket money rather than lying and living with the guilt. I have also learnt that doing the thing that respects and follows your core values will make you feel so much better and be a much better choice in the long run
3. My decision worked out fine in the end because I have bought my friend a new phone, therefore maintaining the friendship, while still being an honest person and respecting my own core values
4. Courage - confess that I broke the phone, and tell your parents as well
5. Step 1 - I will find my friend and tell him/her how sorry I am for breaking the phone in person
6. Step 2 - I can lend my phone to my friend with my mom's permission until I can earn enough pocket money to buy the friend a new phone
7. I borrow someone’s device (Smart Phone, Laptop etc) from a friend and accidentally break it.
8. Evaluate The Result
9. Alternative 5 - Give my phone to my friend
10. Decide And Act
11. Consequence 4 - Still my friend, though not too happy, have more money left than alternative 1, don't trust me with their stuff anymore
12. Honesty - Will not lie about the fact that I broke the phone
13. Explore The Alternative
14. Identify Your Values
15. Consequence 3 - Did not lose my friend, but when they found out, be in big trouble. Will have to keep lying so as to cover up the story, will have guilty conscience
16. Consequence 1 - Still my friend, but I lost a lot of money, their stuff in the phone is gone, and they don't trust me with their stuff anymore
17. Consider The Consequence
18. Alternative 1 - tell them about it and buy a new one
19. Alternative 3 - deny the fact that you broke it, make up a story
20. Alternative 2 - say sorry and do nothing about it
21. Alternative 4 - tell them about it and buy a second hand one
22. If I could do this again, I would be more careful with other people's belongings, but if I still break it, I will do the same thing again because this decision not only follows my core values, but respects my friend as well
23. My decision has affected my friend because some of the things that were in his/her phone might be gone, but that friend will know to trust me because I have paid for what I have done and be honest and truthful
24. Consequence 5 - I will not have my phone, but I did not lose any pocket money, friend will know I'm sorry, but mom will be mad
25. Step 3 - I can then buy my friend a new phone with my allowances that I have saved up
26. Respect - Will buy a new phone instead of old one since I was the one who broke it, and should get new just because of my friend's troubles
27. Consequence 2 - Probably not my friend anymore, my parents/their parents/and them mad at me. Probably grounded, but did not lose pocket money
