1. Jack
1.1. Is competing to be one of the Alpha males on this island. Constant friction between him and Ralph.
1.2. Jack created his own tribe!
1.2.1. Creates his own mini-society to satisfy himself and other people *cough cough* THE CHOIR BOYS
1.3. Another name for him = CHIEF
1.3.1. Jack is later renamed to Chief - his name is not mentioned anymore towards the end of the novel
1.3.1.1. this shows his "Position" in this entire situation - he is the "Alpha", on top of the chain now
2. Simon
2.1. Is loyal to Ralph and Piggy, but also Jack. He just wants to go home like the others.
2.1.1. Ralph and Piggy murder Simon! what monsters
2.2. Shows his loyalty in subtle ways
2.2.1. is very handy; he does a lot of work, as well as Sam and Eric!
2.3. Simon is one of the backbones of this entire novel
2.3.1. Simon helped a lot
3. Sam and Eric
3.1. Loyal to Ralph and Piggy, but they try not to show it to Jack. In the end, they still join Jack's tribe, but still assure their loyalty to Ralph.
3.2. They also just want to go home.
3.2.1. Just like everyone else
3.3. Do everything together
3.3.1. sense of brotherhood and family - they are unseparable
3.3.2. Sam and Eric actually do things in which they believe that could return all of them to safety
3.4. Loyalty, Loyalty, Loyalty!
3.5. ALSO ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL CHARACTERS IN THIS ENTIRE NOVEL
3.5.1. they legit flippity flopped from Jack's side to Ralph's side - their opinion is perhaps one of the most impactful, since a lot of the boys listen to them a lot.
4. Choir boys
4.1. Follows Jack wherever he goes. Jack = lord and savior.
4.1.1. Basically opinionless, basically assuring that they can be manipulated very easily
4.2. They were originally "organized", but they slowly "fall apart" and live like savages.
4.3. Cult! Cult! Cult!
5. Basically everyone thought that there would be a functional society, yet everything fell apart
5.1. The boys acted like savages
5.2. people were fending for themselves
5.3. "society" was basically non-existent in latter half of the book, and everything was basically torn apart
5.3.1. What is society anymore? huh? What an obscure term...
5.4. creating some kind of "society" actually ripped apart the boys instead, but they haven't realized that at all.
6. Ralph
6.1. WAS THE ORIGINAL LEADER, and tries to work with everyone to reach their end goal, which is to be rescued.
6.1.1. Loves his fire
6.2. His relationship was Piggy was pretty tense and cloudy at first
6.2.1. their shared emotions and struggles caused them to bond and understand each other, and eventually caused them to work together
6.3. Ralph first seemed to be cold, but he truly did have a warm heart, once he was comfortable with expressing his opinion.
6.3.1. This actually caused some of the boys to dislike him from the start
6.3.1.1. literally only Piggy, Sam and Eric, and Simon knew the true, real, warm-hearted Ralph, as they actually stayed with him for that long
7. Piggy
7.1. lacks in athletic ability, but makes up for it in smarts
7.1.1. is also a murderer #livingthebestlife
7.1.1.1. he also has asthma
7.1.2. Really loves his fire
7.1.2.1. Piggy is very passionate about what he believes in, which is an admirable trait.
7.1.3. which caused some of the boys to be pissed off at him, and make fun of him for his name, looks, his specs
7.2. has an attachment to his glasses - he needs it to be able to see
7.2.1. his glasses actually foreshadow conflicts (pretty major conflicts that destruct the bond between all of the boys)
7.3. Had a close bond to his family
7.3.1. but once he figured out that all he had was the boys to lean on, he still distrusted them.
8. Roger
8.1. Who he was loyal to was kind of unclear throughout the majority of the book
8.1.1. until he killed Piggy, which was then made clear that he was a part of Jack's tribe
8.2. was a main supporter of Jack's side!
9. Little 'uns
9.1. they follow whoever is in lead - they are traumatized
9.1.1. also opinionless, they are easily manipulated.
9.2. love eating fruit all day and play around
9.3. They just want to go home.
9.3.1. They cry a lot, like babies
9.4. They are so young; the youngest is about 5 years old.
9.4.1. it shows the scope of the entire problem, and specifically who it's affecting
