1. Personification
1.1. Personification is a figure of speech in which a thing – an idea or an animal – is given human attributes
1.1.1. The fire swallowed the entire forest.
2. Onomatopoeia
2.1. Onomatopoeia, pronounced on-uh-mat-uh–pee–uh, is defined as a word which imitates the natural sounds of a thing
3. Oxymoron
3.1. Oxymoron is a figure of speech in which two opposite ideas are joined to create an effect

4. Synecdoche
4.1. Synecdoche is a literary device in which a part of something represents the whole, or it may use a whole to represent a part.
4.1.1. The phrase “gray beard” refers to an old man.

5.1. A simile is a figure of speech that makes a comparison, showing similarities between two different things
5.1.1. Our soldiers are as brave as lions.
6. Metaphor
6.1. A Metaphor is a figure of speech that makes an implicit, implied, or hidden comparison between two things that are unrelated
6.1.1. War is the mother of all battles.
7. Metonymy
7.1. Metonymy is a figure of speech that replaces the name of a thing with the name of something else with which it is closely associated
7.1.1. “Let me give you a hand.” (Hand means help.)
