Characteristics: *the simple past is always used so it is associated with certain temporal expressions. *the frequency: some times *a certain time: last week *an undetermined time: the other day *when the sentence is in the past simple the auxiliary did is used but the verb goes in its original form because the did indicates that the sentence is in the past *If in the present simple the verb to be has three forms (am, is, are), in the past simple it has two: was and were. Was corresponds to the first person singular (I) and the third person singular (he, she, it); were is used for other people (you, we, they).
