1. Guided Reading
1.1. Time
1.1.1. - "sessions" should be 10-15 mins - weaker students should be seen 3-4 times a week - stronger students should be seen 1-2 times per week
1.2. Structure
1.2.1. - students complete a variety of activities with teacher guidance - focus on particular skills - activities should be able to be completed almost independently of students with teachers providing guidance for the targeted skills - can be variety of literacy related activities (word work, reading, writing)

1.3.1.1. - anecdotal notes sheet for recording - multiple copies of materials for students
1.3.2. Student
1.3.2.1. - copy or let of learning materials
1.4. Space
1.4.1. - uncluttered work space - students sitting around common work area - any learning materials are organized for ease of access
2. Independent Reading

2.1.1. - should be designated time for this activity every day - should be between 10 - 20 minutes depending upon age group
2.2. Structure
2.2.1. - expectations for this time are clearly explained and displayed
2.3. Materials
2.3.1. Teacher
2.3.1.1. - anecdotal note sheet to record any check-ins made
2.3.2. Student
2.3.2.1. - book for reading at their reading level - book of student choice - guided reading text for practice
2.4. Space
2.4.1. - students are arranged in individual work areas
3. Read Aloud
3.1. Time
3.1.1. - should be 10-15 mins each day
3.2. Structure
3.2.1. - can be formal or informal lesson - students can be doing nothing else or doing a quiet "busy activity"
3.3. Materials

3.3.2.1. - variety of engaging texts - variety of genres - either formal lesson plan or general learning goal
3.4. Space
3.4.1. - classroom should be quiet - students should be focused on text to some degree - student spaces should not be cluttered or there should be small activity for students - students sit all together in common learning area (ie. desks, carpet)
4. Shared Reading
4.1. Time
4.1.1. - should be 20-25 mins each day
4.2. Structure
4.2.1. - should have a clear learning goal - can have a "warm-up" followed by lesson - should be a variety of teacher led and student led activities - should include activities where students have to collaborate or discuss learning goal with each other
4.3. Materials
4.3.1. Teacher
4.3.1.1. - variety of engaging texts - large version of text or projected on screen - clear learning goals with prompts and questions for students prepared
4.3.2. Student
4.3.2.1. - optional: copy of the text
4.4. Space
4.4.1. - classroom should be quiet during formal lesson - all students are seated in a common learning area (in desks or at carpet area) - collaborative parts of lessons should have a quiet "buzz" to the classroom - student spaces should be uncluttered
