Theoretical Perspectives
von Monique Snipe
1. Cognitive developmentalist
1.1. Jean Piaget-theorist
1.2. 4 stages of cognitive development
1.2.1. Sensorimotor
1.2.2. Pre-operational stage
1.2.3. Concrete operational stage
1.2.4. Formal operational stage
1.3. Mental process due to environmental influences and biological maturation. There are two main stages of this theory; learning to know and the stages we move through as we acquire knowledge.
1.3.1. Call 1
1.3.2. Call 2
2. Nativist
2.1. Noam Chomsky- theorist
2.2. This theory claims that there is a universal grammar that which is the basis of all human language. Chomsky believed that this we are all born with an innate language called the Language Acquisition Device.
2.2.1. Task 1
2.2.2. Task 2
3. Behaviorist
3.1. B.F. Skinner- theorist
3.2. This theory asserts that all human behavior is learned. When placing a positive or negative behavior with a punishment or a reward, the less desirable behavior is eliminated and the desirable behavior is repeated.
3.2.1. Task 1
3.2.2. Task 2
4. Interactionist
4.1. Lev Vygotsky- theorist
4.2. This theory states that language is acquired when a developing child interacts with a modeling adult who has language knowledge. This theory focuses on three areas: developmental cognitive theory, information processing approach and information processing model.
4.2.1. Call 2
