
1. **What I Think Technology Is Now**
1.1. In Tech Talk With Chuck video named "What is Technology?" he says that "... technology is knowledge or a set of tools that helps make things easier or resolve a problem." (charles tuck, 2019).
1.1.1. Windows
1.1.1.1. Helps us introduce fresh air and natural lighting into a building (The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2023).
1.1.2. Bookshelves
1.1.2.1. Allows us to conveniently store and organize books in a single place (The Science Times, 2019).
1.1.3. Medicines
1.1.3.1. According to Callahan, D., the purposes of medicine includes the abilites to"... encompass the relief of pain and suffering, the promotion of health and the prevention of disease, the forestalling of death and the promoting of a peaceful death, and the cure of disease when possible and the care of those who can not be cured." (Callahan, 1998).
1.1.3.1.1. JJR Macleod, Sir Frederick G Banting, and Charles H Best found insulin in 1921 at the University of Toronto (Diabetes UK, 2023a).
1.1.4. Shoes
1.1.4.1. Shoes serve several purposes including, but not limited to, increasing the grip we have when we walk around and protecting feet from being injured (Behnke, 2014).
1.2. John Kenneth Galbraith said that “Technology means the systematic application of scientific or other organized knowledge to practical tasks.” (Thierer, 2021).
1.2.1. In other words, using what we learn from science to help us in our everyday lives (Thierer, 2021)
1.3. After this module, I now believe that technology is not limited to electrical devices. Instead, I now believe that technology are the things that we create when we are faced with a problem; regardless of if they utilize electricity (charles tuck, 2019).
1.3.1. In the TED Talk by Kevin Kelly, Kelly said that technology can include tools used by hunter gatherer peoples (Kelly, 2010).
1.3.1.1. Fire
1.3.1.1.1. Used to cook food (Kelly, 2010).
1.3.1.2. Stone Tools
1.3.1.2.1. Used to help humans hunt animals (Kelly, 2010).
1.4. Technology can be considered as several different things (Dyer, 2021). According to a blog post by John Dyer, it has been said by Stephen J. Kline in 1985 that technology can be considered as manufacturing, hardware, how society uses technology, and methodology (Dyer, 2021).
1.4.1. Technology is more than just cell phones, internet, and robotics (Dyer, 2021).
2. **Why Do We Need New Technologies?**
2.1. There can always be new problems to solve. In turn, these new problems would require new technologies in order for us to overcome them (charles tuck, 2019).
2.2. According to the Ted Talk by Kevin Kelly, technology often has a negative impact on our environment (Kelly, 2010). This shows that our technology isn't perfect (Kelly, 2010).
2.2.1. Kelly stated that "... technology loves biology if we allow it to" (Kelly, 2010).
2.2.1.1. We can improve upon our current technologies and make new technologies in order to solve the problems created by our old ones (Kelly, 2010).
