1.1.1. Human action shapes technology rather than technology shaping humans

1.1.2. Technological success or failure is dependent on society and what values it holds.

1.2.1. The study of communication systems and their effects on human society.

4. Learning Theories

4.1. Connectivism

4.1.1. Connectivism is the learning theory for the digital age. This theory connects thinking and emotions together.

4.1.2. Creation of links or connections for learning to maintain learning

4.1.3. Personal knowledge feeds networks of organizations which intern feed information back to the learner

4.1.4. Learning is as much about knowledge creation as it is about knowledge consumption

4.1.5. Teachers are a link between students and different areas of knowledge.

4.2. Constructivism

4.2.1. Learning is constructed by building upon previous knowledge.

4.2.2. Accommodation occurs when individuals are met with new knowledge that conflicts with previous information

4.2.3. Learners are responsible for their own learning. They monitor and direct their performance. Teachers facilitate learning.

4.2.4. Learners bring their own knowledge to collaborate with others to create new ideas and answers to problems.

4.3. Cognitive Load

4.3.1. Theory based around working memory and long term memory

4.3.2. Long term memory is unlimited and aids with working memory

4.3.3. Learning occurs where information is created by working memory (schemas) and stored as long term memory

4.3.4. Too much new information can overload working memory and impair learning.

4.3.5. Teachers need to break down information into levels of importance and give students appropriate time to learn

4.4. Behaviourism

4.4.1. Behaviouralism is concerned with actions for understanding knowledge and learning.

4.4.2. Learning is the response to distinct stimuli. Environmental stimuli determines behaviour

4.4.3. Modelling is important in education for demonstration of projects or tasks which help students learn.

4.4.4. Breaking down tasks into smaller segments for students to learn will promote clearer understanding of large projects.
