Effects of Social Media
von Durango, Emely
1. Not sure on the best methods to gather data on social media's effects. I need to make sure surveys I find or possibly conduct are effective with different age groups
2. What are the most effective ways to collect data on social media usage and its effects? Which demographic factors should be considered when analyzing its impact? How can I ensure that my findings are representative and unbiased
3. I'm hoping to learn about the nuanced effects, both posiitve and negative. I expect to uncover insights into how different age groups experience social media differently and what strategies can reduce its negative impacts. All in all, I want to be able to have a clearer understanding of how we can use social media for good while being aware of its downsides.
4. Real Life Examples: Kim Kardashian ; heavily photoshops. has had many surgeries(claims body is real), promotes appetite-suppresant lollipops. Tana Mongeau; posts excessive partying(smoking/vaping/drinking), offensive content(racist). Ash Trevino; not exactly an influencer but is a public figure, who makes extremely bad decisions. Very inappropriate actions done online, while her kids were home, etc.
5. Social media has transformed the way we communicate, share information, and interact with one another. From platforms like Facebook and Instagram to TikTok and X, the influence of social media is consistent in our daily lives. This will explore the multifaceted effects of social media on mental health, relationships, and society as a whole.
6. How does social media usage impact mental health among different age groups? In what ways does social media affect interpersonal relationships? What role does social media play in sharing public opinion and societal trends? How can social media be used positively to promote social change?
7. I've been drawn to this topic because of the increasing discussions around social media's influence on mental health, especially among teenagers and young adults. Numerous studies suggesting links between social media use and issues like anxiety, depression, addiction. Along with "influencers" and celebrities who don't use their platforms for good, and influence others in negative ways or don't speak on topics knowing they have an enormous platform to educate. Details: prevalence of social media use, mental health statistics, personal "story", research gaps"
8. I plan to explore articles and surveys that discuss the psychological impacts of social media. I'll do this by making sure they're reputable sources. Check forums/discussions to see what people are saying about their experiences with social media. I think understanding these nuances is crucial. By exploring how different groups are affected, I hope to see patterns that can lead to better awareness and strategies for healthier use. It's a topic that impacts many people, and being well informed on this can make a change.
9. Universities and research institutions are actively studying the effects of social media on mental health. Media and news outlets cover stories about its impact. Social media platforms themselves have creators/influencers speak out on these issues.
