1. Verb
1.1. a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence
1.2. action, linking, and helping
1.3. Examples: action- eat, sleep, catch; linking- be, taste, smell; helping- has, were,is
2. Adjective
2.1. a word or phrase describing a noun
2.2. Examples: small, loud, blue, many
3. Adverb
3.1. a word or phrase that modifies or qualifies an adjective, verb, or other adverb
3.2. usually end in -ly
3.3. Examples: quickly, lightly, really
4. Noun
4.1. a word used to identify people, places, or things
4.2. Proper and common
4.3. Proper nouns: Georgia College, New York, Sally; Common nouns: dog, tree, pool, school
5. Pronoun
5.1. a word that can function by itself as a noun phrase and refer or replace a noun
5.2. Examples: he, she, it, they, we
6. Conjunction
6.1. a word used to connect clauses or sentences
6.2. Examples: and, but, if, or
