1. Use “a”, “and” only with singular nouns

1.1. Example:

1.2. a girl

1.3. a boy

1.4. a table

2. Use “an” with words that start with a vowel sound

2.1. Example:

2.2. an orange

2.3. an octopus

2.4. an elephant

3. If you are using a word with an ' h' move, as ' honorable ' or ' honest ' then you have to use 'an'

3.1. Example:

3.2. an honorable man

3.3. an umbrella

4. When the word begins with a consonant you must use 'a'.

4.1. Example:

4.2. a book

4.3. a cat

4.4. a bird
