1. Scaffolding Strategy #2-To help students visualize the order of steps that need to be taken when solving a multiple step expression I will place visual posters of each operation in the front of class for students to refer to as we learn the basics of evaluating simple expressions.

2. Scaffolding Strategy #1-Taking the familiar concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and reviewing them, then building upon these concepts to understand longer expressions that include multiple terms and various operations.

3. Related Objectives Already Covered in Class:

3.1. Recognizing work within the parenthesis must be completed prior to completing any other operations.

3.2. Show all work in a step-by-step procedure as well as organizing it in a clear manner.

3.3. Being able to look back through work to pin-point and correct calculation errors.

4. Big ideas to be Covered:

4.1. Recognizing the importance of order when evaluating simple expressions (order of operations).

4.2. Knowing how to check back over the steps taken to solve a problem. Learning to recognize and correct errors.

4.3. Learning to break down a problem into parts and not to be overwhelmed by a problem with many different terms.

5. Scaffolding Strategy #3- modeling for the class on the smart board what a well organized problem looks like after solving it step by step.

6. Scaffolding Strategy # 4- Pairing and grouping students up into intentional small groups and pairs to talk through and examine each others' work and to constructively work together to help gain a better understanding of how to find and correct calculation errors.

7. Key Factors About my Students:

7.1. The concept of order of operations has been covered before in previous classes but this is building on the concept by adding more steps than what they are used to solving. This is why I think that it will an effective scaffolding strategy (strategy #1) to review the basics that they already know so as to show them that they are really only adding on a few more steps and taking note of the order in which they complete the steps.

7.2. Many of my students are visual learners and this is why I provided Scaffolding Strategy 2 so that students could look and see what operations were of higher priority before others.

7.3. The students that I have seem to respond well to having a few examples to work from in order to more clearly understand new concepts being covered in class. I will use strategy 3 so as to provide a blueprint for the students as they gradually gain their confidence till they are ready to work on their own.

7.4. I want my students to have the opportunity to talk about what they are learning and to learn through collaboration with one another. I will use strategy 4 to strategically pair up/group the students together so that they are able to talk with one another and help correct each others' errors.
