A.SSE.1. Interpret expressions that represent a quantity in terms of its context. ★ a. Interpret parts of an expression, such as terms, factors, and coefficients. b. Interpret complicated expressions by viewing one or more of their parts as a single entity. A.SSE.2 Use the structure of an expression to identify ways to rewrite it. von Mind Map: A.SSE.1. 1. coefficients

1.1. the number that sits in front of a variable

1.2. example ; 2a + 4b

1.2.1. 2a = 2 x a . and 4b = 4 x b

1.3. the 2 in front of the a is what is recognized as the coefficient.

2. variable

2.1. a symbol that typically represents a number.

2.2. example ; 3x + 8

2.3. the x behind the 3 is known and recognized as the variable.

3. Learning all about expressions

4. terms

4.1. part of an expression that is separated by addition or subtraction.

4.2. example ; 8b^3 + 2a - 12

4.3. when looking at the example above, it separates the expression into different parts. [ 8b^3 ] + [ 2a ] - [ 12 ].

5. factors

5.1. numbers/variables that form an equation or product.

5.2. example ; 4x(2x+16)

5.2.1. 16 can be broken down to 2 x 8, and 4x can be broken down by 2 x 2

5.3. [4x] [2x+16] these are both different factors in order to get an equation/product.
