Types of Sentences According to Structure

1. Simple Sentence

1.1. is one which has one main or independent clause

1.2. This is my food.

2. Compound Sentence

2.1. is a sentence with two main, alpha or independent clauses with no subordinate clause

2.2. The boy won the game but he was not given the prize.

3. Multiple-Complex Sentence

3.1. has three main, independent or alpha clauses plus at least one subordinate, dependent or beta clause

3.2. When he slew them then, they sought him and they returned and sought earnestly for God.

4. Complex Sentence

4.1. has one main, independent or alpha clause and one or more subordinate, dependent or beta clauses

4.2. The boy failed the test because he did not work hard

5. Compound-Complex Sentence

5.1. a sentence that has two main, alpha or independent clauses and one or more subordinate, beta or dependent clauses

5.2. Jane gave the class a test and marked the test papers before writing the correction on the board

6. Multiple Sentence

6.1. is a sentence which has three (3) or more main, independent or alpha clauses with no subordinate or dependent clause

6.2. John cleared the garage, washed the dirty cars and later went to the gym to play football.
