1. Diagnostic
1.1. Definition: A Diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to determine students' individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction. It is primarily used to diagnose student difficulties and to guide lesson and curriculum planning
1.1.1. Example 1:KWL Chart- Students can write what they know about a topic beforehand, what they wonder about the topic and then what they learned after.
1.1.2. Example 2: One Pager- This is a fun and creative way for students to share what they know about a topic. They can draw and add words to share what they know on one sheet of paper.
2. Performance
2.1. Definition: A Performance assessment, also known as alternative or authentic assessment, is a form of testing that requires students to perform a task rather than select ready-made, multiple choice answers from an exam.
2.1.1. Example1: Synthesis of your Learning- This can be done by having students draw out a mind map where they can synthesize what they have learned over the course.
2.1.2. Example 2: Act it out- This can asses a student by giving them a prompt where they can prepare a speech or act the part to show comprehension.

3.2. Guiding Questions
3.2.1. Question 1: Why is MLK Jr important to our history?
3.2.2. Question 2: What other ideas have we learned that help us better understand the problems MLK Jr faced?
3.3. Closing Questions
3.3.1. Question 1: What can we do with what we have learned from this text?
3.3.2. Question 2: Justify how MLK Jr was a good leader.
4. Formative
4.1. Definition: A formative assessment is given frequently throughout the course in order to monitor progress by showing student strenghts and needs. Teachers in turn must address misconceptions and errors promptly through feedback for this type of assessment to be effective.These assessments are generally not scored.
4.1.1. Example 1: Kahoot quiz- Online or on app, this can give teacher a brief recap of student understanding so far through short multiple choice questions.
4.1.2. Example 2: Exit tickets- This can be to answer a short prompt or give a summary of student learning so far.
5. Summative
5.1. Definition: A summative assessment evaluates student learning at the end of an instructional unit to assess the student’s mastery of the unit’s lesson objectives. These assessments are scored with a higher point value.
5.1.1. Example 1: Essays- This is used to assess students as they will write what they know over a topic from the unit covered.
5.1.2. Example 2: End of Course Exam- This can assess student mastery through a variety of questions covering what was taught over the course.
6. Interim/Benchmark
6.1. Definition: An interim assessment, or benchmark, generally falls between Formative and Summative assessments. These are used to measure student progress and to see if the student is on track for mastering crucial academic milestones.
6.1.1. Example 1: STAAR- This is a Texas standardized test that measures student achievement for grade level content.
6.1.2. Example 2: MAP- This assesment is a computerized test that measures student achievement for math and reading.
