1. ELA

1.1. STANDARD 9: Analyze and evaluate texts using knowledge of literary forms, elements, and devices through a variety of lenses and perspectives.

1.2. STANDARD 7: Gather relevant information from multiple sources, assess the credibility and accuracy of each source, and integrate the information in writing while avoiding plagiarism

1.3. The library isn't only for reading - it's also a space for gathering and discussion of knowledge and information. Students should share their different perspectives and opinions about topics and be able to present research to back up their claims. The school librarian teaches students about the credibility of sources in order to better prepare students through the maze of 21st century information retrieval.

2. MATH

2.1. NY-5.NBT Number and Operations in Base Ten Understand the place value system.

2.2. NY-2.MD Measurement and Data Represent and interpret data.

2.3. Not only do students engage in math skills while they learn how to navigate through the decimal system, but students will also learn how to represent knowledge and research findings in a multitude of ways; including graphs. As students create infographics utilizing library technologies, they are learning how to represent their knowledge in new ways.

3. SOCIAL STUDIES

3.1. 3.5 Communities share cultural similarities and differences across the world.

3.2. As the School Librarian curates a collection, they take into consideration the many cultural backgrounds their school population represents. Having a highly diverse collection allows students to be exposed to information about many different cultures. Once exposed to these resources, students are able to compare and contrast different cultures to their own. Students can even learn more about their own ethnic background through the resources in their school library.

4. SCIENCE

4.1. Over time, people’s needs and wants change, as do their demands for new and improved technologies. (4-ESS3- 1)

4.2. Technology in society and within libraries have changed over time. Students can learn about how library technologies have evolved over time. From the card catalog to the electronic catalog and from print books to electronic databases, there is a lot to learn about technology in the library. It is a role of the librarian to be a leader of technology within the school community.

6. The School Librarian plays so many roles within the school community. Not only does the school librarian curate the library's print and electronic resource collection, they also must be an expert in technology and information retrieval. School Librarians must learn how to foster critical thinking through conversation. Librarians have to develop conversation about cultural differences and values. Librarians have to encourage students to represent learning in new and creative ways. There are so many interdisciplinary factors that must be considered by a school librarian.
