4.1. • Initials in personal names are sperate indexing units. • Single letters in business names are indexed as written. • TV and radio stations are indexed as one unit.
5. Rule 5: Titles and Suffixes
5.1. • In personal names, a title before a name (Dr., Mrs.), a seniority suffix (Jr. III), or a professional suffix (MP, PhD.) is the last indexing unit.
6. Rule 6: Prefixes, Articles, and Particles
6.1. • An article in a personal or business name is combined with the part of the name following it to form a single indexing unit.
7. Rule 7: Numbers in Business Names
7.1. • Numbers spelled out are indexed alphabetically (First Street Shop). • Numbers written in digits are indexed in ascending order before letters or words (1st Street Shop before First Street Shop). • For a range of numbers, use only the first number (1-4 Adelaide Rd., use 1). • For names with numbers that contain st, nd, rd, th, ignore the letter endings.

9.1. • Government names are indexed by the first name of the government unit-country, island, city, or district.
