1. Step 1: Referral for AT Assessment:Referrals normally made by family, teachers or administration. Team meets to process the referral. Organization and consideration of students personal information, medical data, use of current technology and information about any related services received.

1.1. Step 2: Conducting an AT Assessment: Conducted by AT specialist and referral team. Observation of cognitive skills, use of AT devices, sensory, motor, communication and social skills. Interview to secure information about specific areas of interest, family concerns, academic expectations, diagnostic and medical information gathered and presented to the IEP team.

1.2. Step 3: The Individualized Education Program Team: Selection and Implementation of AT for the student from the information obtained and presented by the AT specialist. Consideration of learning goals and effectiveness of AT ability to help the student access the curriculum. Training for students and those assisting. Research and conduct trials for the AT devices.

1.2.1. Step 4: Implementation of the AT Device: Monitor the devices to insure they meet their intended functions and are being used correctly. Teachers, student and parents are supported by the IEP team and service personnel. Teachers and service personnel uses the Ongoing Assessment AT Checklist.
