The features of earth's surface

1. Lithosphere

1.1. The lithosphere is the solid, outer part of the earth, including the brittle upper portion of the mantle and the crust.

1.2. The lithosphere consists of water and land.

1.3. Sections of Lithosphere

1.3.1. "plates"

1.3.1.1. plates move because of pressure from deep within Earth. When plates press against each other, they push up layers of rock.

2. The surface of the earth is always changing. At one time, all land was joined together in one place, and the ocean covered the rest of the world. As the plates slowly moved, the land broke apart. Ocean weather moved between the masses of land.

3. Ocean

3.1. Water moves from high ground to low ground. Small streams can come together from the large streams. The large stream can join to form rivers. Rivers flow into lakes or the ocean

3.2. The ocean is a huge body of saltwater.

3.3. The ocean is divided into smaller oceans and seas.

3.4. On the ocean floor are the mid-ocean ridges.

4. Mountain

4.1. Mountains are made by volcanoes. Melted rock called magma

4.2. When the pressure gets very high, the magma that shoots out of the volcano is called lava.

4.3. When the volcano erupts again and again, the lava builds up to form a mountain.
