ASSURE Instructional Design Method par Mind Map: ASSURE Instructional Design Method

1. 1. Analyze Learners

1.1. The lecturer should focus on the attributes required by the student to achieve the desired learning outcomes. The analysis should focus on:

1.1.1. General characteristics

1.1.1.1. age

1.1.1.1.1. academic abilities

1.1.2. Prior competencies

1.1.2.1. For example: computer knowledge

1.1.3. Learning styles

1.1.3.1. auditory

1.1.3.1.1. visual

2. 3. Select Strategies, Technology, Media, and Materials

2.1. The lecturer should first decide on a delivery method that would best achieve the learning objectives. Secondly, the lecturer must identify which technology, media and materials will support their teaching.

2.1.1. Select teaching strategy / delivery method

2.1.2. Modify any existing practices

2.1.3. Design and implement new strategies

3. 2. State Standards and Objectives

3.1. The lecturer should state the outcomes that are expected by the student and can make use of Bloom's Taxonomy to achieve this goal. These objectives are written in an ABCD pattern:

3.1.1. Audience

3.1.1.1. Whom are the objectives intended for?

3.1.2. Behaviour

3.1.2.1. What skills or behaviours should the learner have mastered as the end result?

3.1.3. Conditions

3.1.3.1. What are the conditions under which the behaviour will be observed?

3.1.4. Degree

3.1.4.1. What level should the student have reached at the end of instruction?

5. 4. Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials

5.1. The lecturer must determine HOW to utilize technology, media and materials to achieve the learning outcomes. The lecturer should follow the 5 "P's"

5.1.1. Preview the materials

5.1.1.1. Test your material before you use it in class

5.1.2. Prepare the materials

5.1.2.1. Gather all the material you need to teach your lesson

5.1.3. Prepare the environment

5.1.3.1. Set up your teaching environment. For example ensure the venue has enough available seating, that all students have access to the virtual classroom etc.

5.1.4. Prepare the learners

5.1.4.1. Provide students with an overview of the course requirements, explain to them the learning outcomes of the module as well as the assessment and course expectations

5.1.5. Provide the learning experience

5.1.5.1. If you had followed all the previous steps you would now be able to carry out your lecture or lesson

6. 5. Require Learner Participation

6.1. The lecturer should determine how students will engage with the teaching process. How will they learn the information and skills required in a lesson? For example:

6.1.1. Discussions

6.1.2. Group activities

6.1.3. Formative assessment

6.1.4. Summative assessment

6.1.5. Portfolios of evidence

7. 6. Evaluate and Revise

7.1. The lecturer must determine the impact of their teaching on student learning. The following questions can guide evaluation and revision:

7.1.1. Did the lesson meet the required learning objectives?

7.1.2. Can the lesson be improved?

7.1.3. Was the choice of media and materials suited for the lesson?

7.1.4. What was the experience of the students?
