L12. MY MINDMAP: DEFORESTATION par Mind Map: L12. MY MINDMAP: DEFORESTATION

1. CURIOUS FACT

1.1. Did you know that the net loss of forests in the world is estimated at 7.3 million hectares per year? Or that seven countries in the world account for about 60% of the total deforestation of the planet: Brazil, Canada, China, the United States, Indonesia, Russia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo?

2. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

2.1. It is a phenomenon, caused by the impact of human activities or by natural causes, which results in the loss of forests and jungles. In the last 13 years, more than 43 million hectares of forest have been devastated.

2.1.1. And it is that global warming is one of the main consequences of deforestation, since, without trees, CO2 remains in the atmosphere and the well-known greenhouse effect is produced.

3. WHAT WILL BE THE CONSEQUENCES IF THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES?

3.1. 1. Considering that the rate of deforestation is faster than the rate of reforestation, many of the habitats of animal life will not achieve recover in time, and it is that currently more than 20% of the animals are in danger of extinction because of this, the amount could increase even more in the coming years, if nothing is done about it.

3.1.1. 2. If the human being continues to deforest excessively, probably in a few years, these natural spaces that provide us with what is necessary to survive, will be limited, causing a global crisis, which could trigger wars between countries for raw materials.

4. WHAT COULD BE THE SOLUTIONS?

4.1. 1. I believe that one of the solutions to deforestation should be for governments to establish stricter regulations on the amounts allowed to cut down trees, as well as sanctions and high fines for those who do not comply with said laws.

4.1.1. 2. Another solution could be the creation of global initiatives with annual reforestation goals, which are higher in proportion to deforestation, as well as starting to create positive habits at all levels of education about planting trees.
