1. Attendance & Participation

1.1. Frequent and short logins throughout the week are the best way to stay focused and manage your time and course responsibilities effectively.

1.2. Regular weekly online attendance and participation is expected by all students.

1.3. You should expect to spend at least three hours per week for this online course. However, depending on your learning style, you can expect to spend more time reading and completing activities and assignments.

Module Objectives: • operate our course management system by completing routine tasks in a structured sequence; • identify course expectations, college policies and Accessibility options, and recall information by taking a course information quiz; • participate in community building by posting a “getting to know you“ response to the discussion forum, replying to others and completing a learner analysis survey; • develop confidence as an online student through guided instruction, and • fix technical difficulties.

2.1.3.1. Module Objectives: • recognize the importance of audience and purpose; • identify the basic components involved in writing a prompt and its application to essay response writing ; • demonstrate reading comprehension through a weekly quiz, and • given the opportunity to participate in a group discussion, students will demonstrate an understanding of the components involved in essay writing.

2.1.7.1. Module Objectives: • recognize the importance of preparing an outline through weekly readings; • recall the ability to distinguish between an opinion and an argument; • identify the basics of subject/verb agreement outlined in the readings through a weekly quiz; • given the opportunity to construct a timed response essay, students will demonstrate an understanding of the components involved in essay writing and apply principles of argumentation. • given the opportunity to participate in a group discussion, students will develop and assess topics related to writing by posting to a forum.

3. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

6. Recommened Resources

6.1. • Reliable and frequent access to the internet through home, school, or other remote location conducive to learning. • On-line resources/handouts as indicated by the professor (note: students will be asked to retrieve assignments, course material, participate in online discussions, complete quizzes, send e-mail, communicate virtually, and submit all course work/assignments electronically to FOL). • Access to a dictionary of your choice (online or print-based when/if needed) • All written assignments must be word processed (MS Word, WordPerfect or equivalent) and submitted using the drop box feature in FOL, completed using the quiz function in FOL, or posted to the discussion forums as directed.
