Solutions to mitigate the illegal dumping to charity shops in Perth's southern suburbs.

1. Warning solution: TV advertisement about illegal dumping law (Illegal dumping is the unauthorised discharge or abandonment of waste and is an offence under s.49A of the EP Act. On conviction, the offence carries a maximum penalty of $125,000 for corporations and $62,500 for individuals.)
2. Voucher incentive/reward program - e.g the most sustainable donations each week/month at charity shops receive $20 voucher.
2.1. Conditional reward: Citizens must donate during staffed hours and grab a ticket
3. Seasonal donation fairs at local charity shops
4. Charity shops can designate employees to screen donations and quickly assess incoming donations for suitability.
5. Organise to registern a federal law sign (for people to read) and security at every charity shop
6. Local charities can organise upcycling events where unuseable/broken donated items are transformed into new products by local artists or volunteers. (turning old clothes into quilts or repurposing furniture).
7. Provide sustainable donation packing kits at charity shops: eco-friendly packaging materials and instructions on how to properly prepare items for donation.
8. Shops can launch monthly sustainability challenges where donors are encouraged to focus on donating specific types of item
9. Community recycling centre where people can drop off items that are not suitable for donation but can be recycled or repurposed, such as scrap metal, glass, and textiles.
10. Hire security guards at popular charity shops a couples hours outside staffed hours to reduce illegal dumping (Shops close at 5, security guard from 5-9 PM and 5-9 AM)
11. Motion-Activated Security Cameras
11.1. Activity like people/cars automatically turns on bright warning lights.
11.2. Sounds an alarm or "Warning, you are under surveillance" plays out loud.
11.3. Night vision
12. Have passionate and well-known spokespeople to represent and be the voice of sustainable donations. Create community conversations.
