1.1. Bill Nye The Science Guy

1.1.1. With the Bill Nye app you are able to watch clips of past shows, do science projects, and other games. Bill Nye's shows are a great addition to any science text. Students can read about different science topics and then watch them come to life in videos and do their own science experiments to help create hands on learning.

1.2. Star Walk

1.2.1. An Astronomy app that teaches students about the stars, constelations, and planets. Space plays a major role in the 5th grade curriculum and this will be a great resource for students to find information on different space projects they will be doing in class.

1.3. NASA

1.3.1. Provides mission information, images, and videos about what NASA is doing.

1.4. BrainPOP

1.4.1. With the free version of BrainPOP you are provide one new video each day that is accompanied with a quiz for students to take. This will help further what is being taught in Science and also checks students comprehension with the quiz that is provided.

2. Social Studies

2.1. Stack the States and States Run Free

2.1.1. One part of the 5th grade curriculum is teaching students about the states and their locations. Each of these two apps provides a different way for students to learn about the states. Stack the states provides a statement about a state and gives you 4 states to choose from in a quiz format. This app teaches students about different state facts along with what each state looks like. States Run Free provides you with a map of the United States and you have to point to each state as the app tells you were to fly the plane. Each app provides great information about the states.

2.2. News-O-matic

2.2.1. Provides students with 5 new news articles each day. Each article provides images, videos, and illustrations. Students can also interact by asking questions that they have about the news articles. This is a great source for teaching students about non-fiction text features and the importance of non-fiction text.

2.3.1. This app provides you with a way to explore the video collection of the Smithsonian Chanell. This app contains several clips and over 25 full episodes to introduce students into a vast amount of history.

3. Math

3.1. Math Camp Challenge-School Edition

3.1.1. This app helps strengthen math understanding by providing each child with an avatar that keeps track of each students progress. The app has over 2,500 questions that are Common-Core alligned.

3.2. MyBlee Math

3.2.1. If you are looking for a great math app this is what you have been waiting for and it's FREE. This app provides over 1,000 step-by-step and in-depth math lessons on different math topics. This is a great way for students to receive math tutoring or just to hear the lessons presented in a different way.

3.3. Mathmateer

3.3.1. This is a fun way to reinforce skills such as telling time, money, square roots, and arithmatic.

3.4. Calculator

3.4.1. This app allows its user to free hand a problem onto the screen and it turns your writing into text and solves it. This is a great way to add a little excitement into math and to provide students with a fun way to practice math facts and other skills.

4. Reading

4.1. Running Records

4.1.1. This app provides you an electronic way to do running records on your students. The app calculates the accuracy and the and the self-correction rate, helping make running-records an easier process. Once complete you may email, print, or save them on the app.

4.2. Venn Diagrams

4.2.1. This app is a template of a Venn Diagram that students can use when learning about compare and contrast.

4.3. Toontastic

4.3.1. This app helps teach students about what plot as they create their own story. This is a great hands on resource to teach how a strong plot effects a story.

4.4. Make Beliefs

4.4.1. This app allows students to create their very own comic stories and share them through email or any other social media.

5. Writing/Spelling

5.1. Tell About

5.1.1. This app provides prompts for students to help inspire them to write and to create longer and stronger pieces. Often times my students will tell me they have nothing to write about, now I can use this app to inspire them and they can type in their thoughts right on the app.

5.2. Punctuation

5.2.1. This app helps students practice identifying different forms of punctuation such as periods, semi-colons, commas, ect. It also helps them learn how to properly use them in a piece of writing. This could be used as a resource for those students who struggle with punctuation in writing workshop.

5.3. Vocabulary Spelling City

5.3.1. This app allows teachers to create spelling tests that contain the current weeks spelling words. This is a great way for students to practice for the final test. It also provides the data for how well the children did on the test and what words they continue to struggle with.

5.4. Dragon Dictation

5.4.1. This app allows its user to speak into the speaker of an iPad and the app then types in what is being said. The app does not provide any capitalization or punctuation and I believe this will be a great way to help teach students about the importance of capitalization and punctuation and how to use them properly. This is also a great tool for students who have trouble with writing.
