1. This is a good question! How about let's just make it our central compelling question for the project? This is interesting to me because I have never thought how big a role a person's own culture plays in determining his or her opinion towards other people's cultures. I cannot to wait to explore the answer!
2. I agree with you. The question is socially important because if a person's own culture influences his values and judgments, his or her way of living and of communicating with other people will also be influenced, and thus, the value of the whole society will be affected.

When we read the two short stories from African American literature, I tend to interpret them in a Chinese way, that is, I really tend to compare what happens in the plots to that happened in our own society, like the unequal distribution of income, the inequality between the rich and the poor, the importance of family, etc.
5. This question is interesting to us because it makes us wonder how we really view and value other cultures.

8. This relates to The White Umbrella because the protagonist was viewing other cultures and criticizing her own based on that.
