1.1. Symptomatic

1.1.1. Decoding a text as symptomatic of the authors unconscious or unacknowledged state of mind, or of unacknowledged cultural conditions. Symptomatic reading is generally opposed to intentional reading.

2.1.1. The transmutation of a narrative, usually from one medium to another. Adaptive readings range from interpretations freed from concerns to overreading or underreading to fresh adaptations of the story either in the same medium or in a different one.

3.1.1. An interpretation that seeks to understand a text in terms of the intended meanings of its implied author.
