1. CMHA believes that pan-Canadian efforts to improve health outcomes and quality of life of Canadians as well as sustainability of the health care system can be achieved by finding ways to include youth in the development of policies regarding their health and their future. Students and their families have access to the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health, CMHA strives to facilitate access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health, build resilience and support recovery from mental illness.
2. Service Accessibility: the Association strives to devote its energy, in partnership with all stakeholders, to the development of comprehensive systems of community-based care for any and all who find need for Mental Health care. CMHA’s programs assist with employment, housing, early intervention for youth, peer support, recreation services for people with mental illness, stress reduction workshops and public education campaigns for the community.
3. Equity, inclusion and cultural awareness at the CMHA include these key values and principles: Embracing the voice of people with mental health issues •Promoting inclusion •Working collaboratively •Influencing the social determinants of health (e.g. housing, justice) •Focusing on the mental health needs of all age groups •Using evidence to inform our work •Being transparent and accountable
4. CMHA believes that all residents of Canada have a right to mental health care services that are universal, comprehensive, accessible, portable and publicly administered to all populations and communities in Canada.
5. Vision and Goals: as a nation-wide, voluntary organization, the Canadian Mental Health Association promotes the mental health of all and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness. The CMHA accomplishes this mission through advocacy, education, research and service.
