1. Standard:

1.1. HS PS 1: Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.

2. Objectives/ Scafolding strategies

2.1. Learners can draw electronic configuration and locate the position on the periodic table.

2.1.1. Scaffolding Strategy 1: Provide Orders of orbitals energy level chart

2.1.1.1. Key factor: This chart help learner to follow the order of the orbitals energy level. They should know they can fill maximum 2 electrons in s sub shell, 6 in p- sub-shell, 10 in d- sub shell and 14 in f-subshell

2.2. Learners can tell the group, period and block of the element based on the periodic table

2.2.1. Scaffolding Strategy 1: Whole brain learning strategy

2.2.1.1. Key factor: Students generally get confused whether period is horizontal or vertical. Therefore this activity would help them to remember period is horizontal and group is vertical.

2.2.2. Scaffolding Strategy 2: Use colored periodic table.

2.2.2.1. Key Factor: Different colored sections in the periodic table will help them to remember the four region of the periodic table. In the activity above they have pointed at left, right, middle and bottom for s, p, d and f- blocks. Therefore they should remember the blocks.

2.3. Learners can classify elements are metals or non-metals.

2.3.1. Scaffolding Strategy 1: Use the periodic table with staircase just above Aluminum.

2.3.1.1. Key Factor: The stair case just above the Aluminum is very helpful to separate metals from non-metals in the periodic table.

2.4. Learners can compare the periodic properties of the elements based on the position on the periodic table

2.4.1. Scaffolding Strategy 1: Use the rap video of periodic trend.

2.4.1.1. Key Factor: This rap song is catchy and there is visual cues as well in the video. So this will help learners to remember the periodic trend of the properties.

3. Big Ideas

3.1. Understand structure of matter

4. Grade Level and Subject:

4.1. Grade 10 (HS Chemistry)
