1. I wanted to create a countertype magazine by having women as strong and dominate as well as powerful indicating a change in the industry as women mirror the attribute of male Hip-Hop artists. I wanted to make this known by using a large image, which I had to edit, and crop to be able to attract my primary audience, which are young youthful girls who may feel like they are equal to men or are into the change in the industry. My idea for this was to create a step forward to show others that Hip-Hop is not just for the stereotypical rough males but also the powerful independent woman. I used an image of an African American artist who had tattoos and black street clothing, which is the stereotypical style of those in the Hip-Hop industry.

2. I used formal as well as informal language to address my audience, as it was relatable to them. Having a chatty nature to the language I use allows the reader to understand the magazine better or feel included. Throughout my production, I used different types of slang to ensure it would draw the target audience and make them indulge more into the magazine.

3. I ensured to take different shot types that would draw the attention of a reader. I used medium long shots as well as close ups showing the power but venerability of the artists again allowing the reader to relate to the artist. The images also give a clear indication as to what will be included without having to add a lot of text.

4. David Gauntlett says, “Identities are not given but are constructed and negotiated”. This quote made me run further with the idea of counter types using a main female artist to challenge the idea of stereotyped women. My idea was to reach my primary target audience, who are young youthful females mainly form an African American minority who may earn enough income to be able to buy the magazine or women who are into the change in Hip-Hop. When planning this magazine, I noticed I would need to use relatable language to attract my target age as well as social class. I wanted to aim at a younger audience who are between the ages of 17-24 and are from different social classes, which I was able to achieve by the Mise-en-scene I used, for example the range of images, the language used, the colours I used as well as the simple layout. Another reason for choosing this age group was that it would not influence or inhabit their decisions.

5. The genre in which I wanted my magazine to be based on was Hip-Hop, which is stereotypically seen as an aggressive and territorial genre, which could also be seen as negative representations for particular ages. This was another factor I had to consider when creating my magazine to ensure I did not offend anyone or raise any issues. The constructed and mediated presentation of people, places, and events was an important aspect for me to focus on when creating my magazine, to be able to draw my target audience to my magazine when displayed next to my competitors. My magazine is based on the theme of Hip-Hop however; I wanted to change the stereotype of how women are represented in the Hip-Hop industry.
