1. To be and experiment must include:
1.1. Test the effect of the IV on the DV
1.2. Controlled/standardised conditions
1.3. Possible replication to test for reliability
2. Field Experiment
2.1. Takes place in natural setting but IV manipulated by researcher
2.1.1. Larger scale settings e.g school
2.1.2. More ecological validity
2.1.3. Lack of control
2.1.4. could be extraneous variables effecting behaviour
2.1.5. Access may be difficult
2.1.6. Ethical issues
3. Laboratory Experiment
3.1. Take place in a controlled setting by the researcher
3.1.1. Internal validity
3.1.2. High control = Only variables being manipulated are effecting behaviour
3.1.3. Cause and effect established
3.1.4. Less ecological validity
3.1.5. Artificial setting = artificial behaviour
3.1.6. Social bias
3.2. Loftus and Palmer
4. Quasi Experiment
4.1. In natural or controlled setting where IV takes place naturally due to ethics or practicality e.g gender, ethnicity or age
4.1.1. Study effects of variable that can't be manipulated
4.1.2. Less demand characteristics
4.1.3. Less sample bias
4.1.4. No control over participants = confounding variables
4.1.5. Hard to replicate
4.1.6. Ethical issues
