1. Example: "Do not go gentle into that good night. I read on, through words I do not understand and ones that I do. I know why it spoke to Grandfather: Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Range, rage, against the dying of the light. And as I read on, I know why it speaks to me: Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lighting they Do not go gentle into that good night."
2. Definition: A story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning typically a moral or political one.
3. The allegory in the novel is a pivotal point for Cassia. Though this literary device has only been used once in the entire novel, its importance to the story as a whole is too prominent to dismiss. As shown by the text, Cassia is driven to emotions she's never felt before. For the first time she feels a fire inside of her, "rage" that courses through her veins- an experience that brings her to tears. Though the main protagonist does not fully understand its meaning, she is perplexed and dumbfounded by its words. This allusion could foreshadow a rebellious nature inside of Cassia- causing her to break away from the hold of her totalitarian government.
