1.3. Self Confidence

1.3.2. Fear is a chief reason of

1.3.2.2. Failure

1.3.4. The 6 basic fears:

1.3.4.3. criticism

1.3.5. The most effective way to fight fear is with organized knowledge

1.4. The Habit of Saving

1.4.1. "The saving of money is solely a matter of habit"

1.4.2. Million live in poverty because they have developed bad habits

1.4.3. The habit of saving increases your earning capacity:

1.6.4. Use your imagination to rearrange old ideas into new combinations

1.7. Enthusiasm

1.7.1. "enthusiasm is the mainspring of the mind that urges one to put knowledge into action"

2. Lessons 8 - 16

2.1. Self Control

2.1.1. "You have the power to control your thoughts and direct them to do your bidding."

2.1.2. Without Self Control:

2.1.2.1. enthusiasm is like, "the unharnessed lightning of an electrical storm"

2.1.3. Enthusiasm triggers action

2.1.3.1. Self Control channels this action

2.1.4. Prison inmates lack the self control to channel their energy in a constructive manner

2.1.5. No one can control others unless they first control themselves

2.1.6. Lack of self control is the single most damaging habit of "average" salespeople

2.1.7. Self control will enable you to control your appetite and the tendency to spend more than you earn

2.1.8. Do not allow outside forces to unduly influence you

2.1.8.1. Think for yourself

2.1.8.2. but with rock-solid precision

2.2. The Habit Of Doing More Than Paid For

2.2.1. "You are most efficient and will more quickly and easily succeed when engaged in work that you love, or work that you perform on behalf of some person you love."

2.2.2. Some people love their work

2.2.2.1. but many hate what they do for a living

2.2.3. If you love the work you do

2.2.3.1. you will do more and better work than what you are paid for

2.2.4. The benefits of doing what you love:

2.2.4.1. Happiness

2.2.4.2. earning much more money

2.2.5. Stay true to your passion

2.2.5.1. regardless of what others may say

2.3. A Pleasing Personality

2.3.1. "a personality that attracts"

2.3.2. Take a genuine interest in other people

2.3.2.1. focus on the client's work and accomplishments

2.3.3. Use the pronoun "You" more frequently than "I"

2.3.4. If done correctly:

2.3.4.2. the prospect will insist on buying

2.3.5. Cheap flattery does NOT replace genuine interest

2.3.6. Do not look at successful people with envy

2.3.7. Hill's formula for building character:

2.3.7.1. envision those who have a character you'd like to cultivate

2.3.7.1.1. take on these qualities through autosuggestion

2.3.7.2. imagine a meeting with this person

2.3.7.2.1. create a detailed statement of qualities you want to emulate under their direction

2.3.7.3. Imagine what they would have to say to you about these qualities

2.3.7.3.1. absorb this information, and put it to use in your own day-to-day

2.3.8. The seven key factors of a pleasing personality:

2.3.8.1. 1. Form the habit of being genuinely interested in other people

2.3.8.1.1. find their good qualities and speak of them in only a positive manner

2.3.8.2. 2. Develop the ability to speak with force and convition

2.3.8.2.1. both in private and public settings

2.3.8.3. 3. Dress in a manner that is appropriate and flattering to you

2.3.8.4. 4. Develop a positive character

2.3.8.5. 5. Learn how to shake hands so that warmth and enthusiasm is conveyed through this action

2.3.8.6. 6. Attract other people to you by first "attracting yourself" to them.

2.3.8.7. 7. Your only limitation (within reason) is the one you create in your own mind

2.4. Accurate Thinking

2.4.1. Accurate thinking involves two things:

2.4.1.1. Separating fact from information

2.4.1.2. Separating fact into two classes:

2.4.1.2.1. important/unimportant

2.4.1.2.2. relevant/irrelevant

2.4.2. The accurate thinker will not believe everything he hears

2.4.3. Be wary of any self-interest from the provider of evidence

2.4.3.1. "form your own judgment on the part of the evidence before you that furthers your own interest without working any hardship on others... and is based on facts"

2.4.4. The key to accurate thinking is "creative thought"

2.4.5. The first step to accurate thinking is autosuggestion

2.4.5.1. suggestions you make to yourself

2.4.5.2. the subconscious mind will invoke the aid of "infinite intelligence"

2.4.5.2.1. which leads to actions

2.4.5.3. suggest Facts Only

2.4.6. The subconscious mind does not question the source of it's orders

2.4.6.1. it is of vital importance:

2.4.6.1.1. How

2.4.6.1.2. and

2.4.6.1.3. Where

2.4.6.1.4. We receive suggestions from

2.5. Concentration

2.5.1. "the act of focusing the mind on a given desire until ways and means for its realization have been worked out and successfully put into operation."

2.5.1.1. The Law of Habit

2.5.1.2. The Law of Autosuggestion

2.5.2. The habit grows from:

2.5.2.1. Environment

2.5.2.2. Repetition

2.5.3. Use Enthusiasm to form new habits

2.5.3.1. travel the repetition path as often as possible

2.5.4. To create a good environment:

2.5.4.1. Revisit your Definite Chief Aim

2.5.4.2. Design your environment to foster this Aim as much as possible

2.5.5. Concentration is:

2.5.5.1. the ability to keep your mind focused on one subject until you have mastered it,

2.5.5.2. the ability to control your attention and solve any problem

2.5.5.3. the ability to throw off bad habits and attain self-mastery

2.5.6. When two or more people ally themselves for the purpose of attaining a goal, their power is greatly increased.

2.5.7. it is possible for anyone to develop the ability to "tune in" and understand the thoughts of others through the "Universal Mind"

2.5.7.1. side note:

2.5.7.1.1. Very similar to Carl Jung's "The Collective Unconscious"

2.6. Cooperation

2.6.1. "the beginning of all organized effort."

2.6.2. Two forms:

2.6.2.1. cooperation between people who group themselves together for the purpose of achieving a given end (see The Master Mind)

2.6.2.2. Between the conscious and subconscious minds of an individual

2.6.2.2.1. aka infinite intelligence

2.6.3. Nearly all successful businesses employ cooperation in one form or another

2.6.3.1. cooperation is the foundation for successful leadership

2.6.4. Surround yourself with those that posses skills that you yourself lack

2.6.5. No one succeeds alone

2.7. Profiting by Failure

2.7.1. "Defeat is a destructive force only when it is accepted as failure. When accepted as teaching some needed lesson, it is always a blessing."

2.7.2. Normally a negative word

2.7.2.1. however

2.7.2.1.1. failure is different from

2.7.3. sound character is the result of

2.7.3.1. reversals

2.7.3.2. setbacks

2.7.4. Temporary defeat is the teacher of a needed lesson

2.7.5. Ultimately, ther is no failure.

2.7.5.1. it's only a minor setback in disguise

2.7.5.2. Ensure that is is only temporary, and not permanent

2.8. Tolerance

2.8.1. Intolerance cloud the mind of individuals and prohibits the development of:

2.8.1.1. Morals

2.8.1.2. Mental fortitude

2.8.1.3. Spirituality

2.8.2. Question the foundations of your beliefs

2.8.2.1. are they rock-solid?

2.8.2.2. are the based on reality and truth?

2.8.3. Regardless of the chose field

2.8.3.1. cooperation and tolerance support the Definite Chief Aim

2.9. The Golden Rule

2.9.1. "the guiding star that will enable you to profitably and constructively use the knowledge assembled in the previous lessons"

2.9.2. Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you

2.9.3. All your thoughts and actions will come back to you

2.9.3.1. for better or for worse

2.9.4. The Golden Rule makes:

2.9.4.1. dishonesty

2.9.4.2. selfishness

2.9.4.3. greed

2.9.4.4. envy

2.9.4.5. hatred

2.9.4.6. malice

2.9.4.7. Impossible

2.9.5. You are punishing yourself for every wrong your commit

2.9.5.1. And

2.9.5.1.1. Rewarding yourself for every act of constructvity

2.9.6. Labor and Capital have a mutual and common interest

2.9.6.1. neither can prosper without the prosperity of the other

2.9.6.2. If labor is the arm, capital is the blood

2.9.6.3. Each must care for the other, using The Golden Rule
