Exploring K-12 Student Learning with Technology by Amanda Rios-EP 771 por Mind Map: Exploring K-12 Student Learning with Technology by Amanda Rios-EP 771

1. Distance learning occurs when the teacher and students are not in the same physical location during instruction (Smaldino et. al., 2019).

2. Distance Learning K-12 Instruction

3. Blended Learning and Homeschooling Instruction

3.1. There are schools who now offer courses that combine face-to-face instruction with distance learning, allowing students to see teacher demonstrations and work with other students during hands-on activities, such as labs, drama and musical arts performances, or building 3-D models (Smaldino et. al., 2019).

4. “Hybrid homeschools” are a form of blended learning and can function as a homeschooling option. Hybrid homeschools generally operate as formal schools 2–3 days per week. The rest of the week students are homeschooled.

5. As of today, most states offer students opportunities to participate in middle or high school online virtual classes (Smaldino, et.al, 2019).

6. Technology and Digital Learners:

6.1. Digital students learn in classrooms where the technology is a smooth component of learning that expands beyond the educational environment and further than the classroom walls. Technology now allows for digital learners to learn and extend the existing capabilities of learners in many directions (Smaldino, et.al, 2019). Because this is the case, technology here can fit well within the parameters of all instructional type settings.

8. Three types of K-12 instruction include: face-to-face, distance, or blended instruction

9. Face-to-Face K-12 Instruction

10. The traditional classroom or face-to-face instruction is when the instructor and the students of an educational institution are in a place devoted to instruction and the teaching and learning take place at the same time (Purdue University, 2018).

11. Media Library Centers and technology options for these instructional settings:

12. Library media centers for schools in these various educational settings are equipped with many technological options to educate students and to assist teachers. Media Libraries have multiple Internet-connected computers, often with subscriptions to PK–12 online resources such as libraries of digital books, reference materials, and educational software. The library media centers also provide you with a variety of classroom support materials ranging from lab kits to subject-specific software and videos. (Smaldino, et. al., 2019)

13. A Digital Teacher for these K-12 instructional settings: A “digital” teacher’s classroom/online instruction includes presentations that are media rich and interactive (Smaldino, et.al, 2019). Further, teachers in these settings must bring in live digital videoconferences, act as a historian, novelist, and content expert in order for students to thrive. Amongst other responsibilities, teachers must serve as a model for using various technologies or media thus teachers must stay up-to-date with technology usage to effectively enhance student learning.
