How can we be more sustainable but safe during the pandemic? por Mind Map: How can we be more sustainable but safe during the pandemic?

1. Why is the environment important?

1.1. Eitel, Kathrin. "PlastiCorona: Who Cares about 0RW1S34RfeSDcfkexd09rT2that1RW1S34RfeSDcfkexd09rT2 Waste?" Social Anthropology, vol. 28, no. 2, 2020, pp. 261-262. 1.1.1. The article says, "Garbage piles up in the capital of Cambodia; it lies around in corner, on street in fields". It addresses the blindness consumers have to their trash.

1.1.1.1. I think this article is important because it shows why there needs to be a change and exposes what is usually brushed away. It appeals to peoples emotions.

1.2. Markard, Jochen, and Daniel Rosenbloom. "A Tale of Two Crises: COVID-19 and Climate." Sustainability : Science, Practice, & Policy, vol. 16, no. 1, 2020, pp. 53-60. ProQuest, http://ezproxy.depaul.edu/login?url=https://www-proquest-com.ezproxy.depaul.edu/scholarly-journals/tale-two-crises-covid-19-climate/docview/2475065925/se-2?accountid=10477, doi:http://dx.doi.org.ezproxy.depaul.edu/10.1080/15487733.2020.1765679.

1.2.1. This article focuses on how climate change, if continues on this path, will limit human life.

1.2.1.1. This article appeals to the readers emotions and scares people into wanting to make a change becuase there are people who wont care about an issue unless they are directly affected by it and I want to make sure people see the importance.

1.3. Risto, Kunelius. "On the Overlap of Systemic Events: Covid-19, Climate, and Journalism." Social Media + Society, vol. 6, no. 3, 2020. ProQuest, http://ezproxy.depaul.edu/login?url=https://www-proquest-com.ezproxy.depaul.edu/scholarly-journals/on-overlap-systemic-events-covid-19-climate/docview/2447803366/se-2?accountid=10477, doi:http://dx.doi.org.ezproxy.depaul.edu/10.1177/2056305120948197.

1.3.1. This article exposes how fragile the world is because of climate change and uses literary themes to explain it.

1.3.1.1. I thought this article would be good to include because although it would appeal to the audiences emotions, it would also appeal to ethos and show how these concepts are viewed in a different light and can be seen as more "sophisticated" way of seeing it.

2. What can we do to help the environment during the pandemic?

2.1. "Coronavirus Refocuses Recycling Efforts and Leads to New Trust Record: NT." Nursing times, vol. 116, no. 9, 09, 2020, pp. 9. 2.1.1. Nurses at NHS Foundation Trust have focused on single use items that they use during their shifts.

2.1.1.1. I think this article is important because health care workers go through a lot of single use items during their shift and this shows that even where they are exposed to the most covid, they can help lesson their environmental impact so then other people can too

2.2. Čavoški, Aleksandra. "An Ambitious and Climate-Focused Commission Agenda for Post COVID-19 EU." Environmental Politics, vol. 29, no. 6, 2020, pp. 1112-1117. ProQuest, http://ezproxy.depaul.edu/login?url=https://www-proquest-com.ezproxy.depaul.edu/scholarly-journals/ambitious-climate-focused-commission-agenda-post/docview/2430092554/se-2?accountid=10477, doi:http://dx.doi.org.ezproxy.depaul.edu/10.1080/09644016.2020.1784010.

2.2.1. The European Commission has had to reevaluate their original plans for addressing climate change to fit in the pandemic. They claim that they will be the "first climate-neutral continent by 2050".

2.2.1.1. I wanted this as a reliable source to help build to my call to action at the end of my essay. I want to say that even though people can help, it's governments who have to make the big changes.

2.3. Baldwin, Claudia, and Kathryn English. "Learning from Dual Global Crises: COVID-19 and Climate Change." Social Alternatives, vol. 39, no. 2, 2020, pp. 43-49. ProQuest, http://ezproxy.depaul.edu/login?url=https://www-proquest-com.ezproxy.depaul.edu/scholarly-journals/learning-dual-global-crises-covid-19-climate/docview/2452543046/se-2?accountid=10477.

2.3.1. The article focuses on the topics that Covid and climate change have in common, and how the "shared burden" that are people will have to adapt just like they did to the pandemic.

2.3.1.1. I like this article because it uses ethos to show that people will fight back. like the arguments say, but will inevitably have to comply just as they had to do with covid.

2.4. Mulholland, Marcela. "A Moment of Intersecting Crises: Climate Justice in the Era of Coronavirus." Development, vol. 63, no. 2-4, 2020, pp. 257-261. ProQuest, http://ezproxy.depaul.edu/login?url=https://www-proquest-com.ezproxy.depaul.edu/scholarly-journals/moment-intersecting-crises-climate-justice-era/docview/2478672842/se-2?accountid=10477, doi:http://dx.doi.org.ezproxy.depaul.edu/10.1057/s41301-020-00259-9.

2.4.1. This article focuses on climate change with keeping in account the pandemic and structures it to address all the main problems that have come up during the pandemic.

2.4.1.1. This article is important because it addresses issues that have come up during the pandemic and how climate change fits into it. It helps people see its importance in comparison.

3. How has the pandemic impacted the environment?

3.1. Rai, Nagendra Kumar et al. “Consequences of chemical impact of disinfectants: safe preventive measures against COVID-19.” Critical reviews in toxicology vol. 50,6 (2020): 513-520. doi:10.1080/10408444.2020.1790499

3.1.1. To prevent COVID-19 from spreading, using disinfectants has become the norm but the amount that is used by everyone is having an effect on not only the environment but people themselves.

3.1.1.1. I like this article because it can scare people who are carelessly using supplies while keeping it mild to not push away the reader.

3.2. Nabi, Ghulam et al. “Massive use of disinfectants against COVID-19 poses potential risks to urban wildlife.” Environmental research vol. 188 (2020): 109916. doi:10.1016/j.envres.2020.109916

3.2.1. The massive use of disinfectants are a danger to urban environments and there should be a limit so people don't overuse disinfectants that can ultimately harm wildlife as well.

3.2.1.1. I like this article because it reveals that there are other things that are getting affected by the choices humans make and can 'guilt trip' people into seeing the consequences that come with what you buy.

3.3. Klemeš, Jiří Jaromír et al. “The energy and environmental footprints of COVID-19 fighting measures - PPE, disinfection, supply chains.” Energy (Oxford, England) vol. 211 (2020): 118701. doi:10.1016/j.energy.2020.118701

3.3.1. This article focus on the environmental impact "disposable" masks are having on people and the environment as well as other common objects we now use.

3.3.1.1. This article is important because the average person might think that they can't do anything to help or don’t see themselves as the problem. It helps make the argument more realistic and real to see.

3.4. Ammendolia, Justine et al. “An emerging source of plastic pollution: Environmental presence of plastic personal protective equipment (PPE) debris related to COVID-19 in a metropolitan city.” Environmental pollution (Barking, Essex : 1987) vol. 269 (2021): 116160. doi:10.1016/j.envpol.2020.116160

3.4.1. This article talks about the lack of structure for the disposable of masks, gloves and wipes as well as false labels that are said to be reusable but are only single use.

3.4.1.1. Like the article before this, I like this article because it shows the objects that people use have consequences and it shows that it is also companies faults for not educating consumers on proper disposal.

3.5. Ben Pontin, The Constitutive Tension Between Public Health and Environmental Protection—An Historical Perspective, Journal of Environmental Law, Volume 32, Issue 3, November 2020, Pages 345–348, Constitutive Tension Between Public Health and Environmental Protection—An Historical Perspective

3.5.1. Talks about how the earth is overworked, especially during the pandemic and how normal is no longer the same and it needs to be changed.
