2.1.1.1. The deformity was caused by Bob Ewell. He tried to kill Jem Finch but Boo Radley saved Jem. However Jem still broke his arm. As the result of this misfortune, Jem's arm were deformed temporily.

4.1. He is a gentlemen except once he destorys Mrs Dubose flowers.

4.1.1. In later years, I sometimes wondered exactly what made Jem do it, what made him break the bonds of "You just be a gentlemen, son' and the phase of self-conscious rectitude he had recently entered.

4.1.1.1. Jem always keeps himself clam and mature but this time because Mrs. Dubose said something bad about Atticus's behaviour of defending a nigger he was enraged by her insulting language.

7.2.1. "If there's just one kind of folks, why can't they get along with each other? If they're all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other? Scout, I think I'm beginning to understand something. I think I'm beginning to understand why Boo Radley's stayed shut up in the house all this time.it's because he wants to stay inside."

7.2.1.1. Jem begins to realise the ugly side of his community after Tom Robinson's trial. Jem begins to understand the reason why Boo Radley wants to stay in his house because the reality of the Society is very cruel which also obtains many filthy aspects. Boo is a vulnerable person if he involves in the society that he might be harmed. His action is a way to protect himself from getting injuries.

7.3. The fate of Tom Robinson

7.3.1. "Atticus-" said Jem bleakly. He turned in the doorway. "What, son?" "How could they do it, how could they?" "I don't know, but they did it. They've done it before and they did it tonight and they'll do it again and when they do it—seems that only children weep. Good night." (235)

7.3.1.1. Jem was confused and felt sad for the fate of Tom Robinson. He wondered why it happened. He began to realise the true situation in his society is. He sypatheise Tom and felt guilty for what whitr people had done to black people.
