5th Grade Social Studies Standard 4.2: Build an understanding fo the organization and formation of the American system of government

1. SWBAT Distinguish and compare responsibilities among state, national, and tribal governments in a federal system
1.1. Students will research, in groups, one of the three types of government, tribal, national, or state. They will learn about their distinct responsibliities.
1.1.1. Students will give presentations about type of government they researcehd. Students will be given one week and will be graded on their presentation of responsibilities the government type
2. SWBAT Identify the three branches of government and the functions and powers of each.
2.1. Students will create a mock government and work together to pass a law and test it in court
2.1.1. Students will write an essay or make a video explaining their understanding of their branch of government and how it interacts with the other branches.
3. SWBAT Explain the difference between State public lands and Federal public lands.
3.1. Students will exampine maps of state and federal public lands and watch a video explaining the differences between the rights associated with those lands.
3.1.1. Students will fill in a map of Idaho comparing state/federal lands and write short paragraphs explaining the differences between the two.
