Climate Change
por Nicoleta Kehagia
1. Renewable energy is more expensive
2. Common myths (nicoleta)
2.1. Global warming isn't real
2.2. Heat waves and wildfires have nothing to do with climate change
2.3. Animals will adapt to climate change
2.4. Climate change is a future problem
2.5. Part of the natural cycle
2.6. Scientist manipulate all datasets to show a warming trend
3. Science points: (nicoleta)
3.1. At least 97% of scientist believe that climate change is caused by humans
3.2. Warming ocean temperatures
3.3. Direct and Indirect affects on animals
3.4. Changes in emissions since the past - for example increase since the industrial revolution - human footprint on the carbon cycle
3.5. Link between carbon emissions and climate change
3.6. Affects of deforestations
4. Disinformation: lack of awareness and individuals being informed by unqualified authors (also website pages, blogs, articles etc. that are not peer reviewed) spread misinformation that some people are likely to believe
5. Why the controversy? (chloe)
5.1. People do not believe in climate change
5.1.1. Naive realism: those who believe our personal experience is reality - therefore are insensitive to external data (around the world)
5.1.2. Motivated reasoning: Individuals in climate change denial - because discomfort arises from the knowledge of climate change or it does not serve them personally
5.2. Individuals believe in climate change - based on science
6. Solutions (everyone)
6.1. Reduce carbon emissions renewable energy sources (electric, hydro, nuclear, solar, wind) build regenerative forests, protect wetlands and protect soil against erosion and overfarming and monoculture. new biodegradable technology (reduce plastic use, absorb excess carbon)
6.2. save energy at home walk, bike and taking public transport eat more veggies (less meat) reduce, reuse, repair, recycle
6.3. electric transport
6.4. protect forrests

8. Reasons why people are not adopting alternative methods like using renewable resources. -the installment and the equipments used in energy sources like wind energy and solar energy are very costly and need regular repair. -people prefer using their own vehicle instead of public transport system due to flexibility of time and more comfort. -in various poor countries government is not able to fulfill basic necessities then how can it run various projects like gas pipelines etc to overcome issue of climate change. - various methods like using nuclear energy will even leave more dangerous and radioactive nuclear waste in the environment.

9. Background of climate change - George
9.1. 1896 - Svante Arrheniss found out that CO2 emissions, from fossil-fuel burning and human practices will cause global warming. He did this by using chemistry to calculate estimates of the inncrease in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and how much will ncrease Earth's surface temperature.
9.2. The Keeling Curve is a graph that represents the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in Earth’s atmosphere since 1958. The Keeling Curve is named after its creator, Dr. Charles David Keeling. (expand on why this is important)
9.3. In 1989, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established under the United Nations to provide a scientific view of climate change and its political and economic impacts. - first governmental action on climate change?
9.4. The first global agreement to reduce greenhouse gases, the Kyoto Protocol, was adopted in 1997, goes into affect in 2005. (expand on this)
9.5. the Paris Climate Agreement (2015). 197 countries pledged to set targets for their own greenhouse gas cuts and to report their progress.
