1. Summative Assessment

1.1. Examples: Standardized testing, final exams, major cumulative projects, research projects, etc.

1.2. Assessments given to students at the end of a unit or school year.

1.3. Purpose is to help students develop test taking skills, getting adjusted to lengths of tests, and state scores as well as school scores.

2. Performance Assessment

2.1. Example would be a science fair project

2.2. Test that involves the students to participate in activities where they must demonstrate in front of an instructor to prove mastery of an objective by creating a project.

2.3. Demonstrates performance of a certain skill

2.4. Individual projects, group projects, portfolio, student logs, journals

3.1. Assessments gather information in a document which can serve as a way to improve teachers instruction and student's learning

3.2. Types of assessments include formative, summative, performance and diagnostic

3.3. Assessments are not evaluations they serve for improvement
