Who would be the audience for your media product?
by harfield smith
1. where material or treatment appears to the BBFC to risk harm to individuals or, through their behaviour, to society. like detailed portrayal of violent or dangerous acts, or of illegal drug use, which may cause harm to public health or morals.
1.1. Here there is a screen shot from our title sequence of drugs. Although the drugs are not in use. The possession of them is still being glamorised.
2. breach of the criminal law or commission of a criminal offence
2.1. screen shot of gun in our title sequence which breeches criminal law and violence offence. Especially as the title sequence is implying that there is going to be a 'shoot out' between the gangster and gang members. If we were to carry on a create the rest of the film it would get a lot more violent with the use of guns,
2.2. Here is a screen shot from our title sequence of gambling going on. Gambling is illegal to anyone under the age of 21 in Las Vegas in casinos. As there is not an age certificate for 21 years 18 is the nearest so anyone that is between 18 and 20 watching the title sequence would be breaking the law if they were to gamble as this glamorises gambling.
3. Age certificate
4. Themes and issues in our media product.... VIOLENCE - MASCULINE GAMBLING - MASCULINE ALCOHOL - MASCULINE
4.1. ALCOHOL / WHISKY is not considered to be feminine beverage as whisky has masculine traits as whisky has a sharp and rusty taste which connotes masculinity whereas ideology connotes wine to be feminine as it is more delicate and lady-like.
4.2. GUN and other weapons are classed by ideology to represent masculinity and therefore a male audience can relate more to this.
5. We feel that after the title sequence that we have created, if the film were to carry on it would get quite violent and it already shows drinking , drugs , gambling and illegal behaviour being 'glamorised' which is something that an age 18 film includes.
6. Here is a screen shot of my questionnaire. I used this to find out who the target audience for our film who be. From this the results show that by majority the MALE gender would be more willing to watch a gangster/crime genre'd film and have done before in contrast to the female gender. This questionnaire results also show that a older audience would be more interested in a film with our themes and issues of the gangster/crime genre.
7. After looking on the British Board of Film Classification website which is a company that determines the age certificate of a film, I looked into the terms and conditions to find out what certain elements can tip the age certificate from a 15 to an 18.

9.2.1. 18
