Technology by Mind Map: Technology

1. What technology finally means to me and some examples

1.1. I've thought a lot about what technology really is. After watching all these videos and going through all these pages on Google about the topic, I'm sure it is much more than I thought about it in the beginning. Defining this one word is really complex. The definition just keeps maturing as we keep on digging deeper. Every single thing you see around you; a pair of scissors, a plastic bottle, mobile phone, detergent, CD's, etc. It's all made of some material that we don't know about unless we have studied about it in some detail. As this famous English Proverb says - "Need is the mother of invention." In today's world, we have devices like 6th sense cameras that can track hand gestures to take photographs. A new technique called Liquid Biopsy has been developed that can detect cancer even before the symptoms arise by sequencing the DNA in a few drops of a person's blood. We have all the resources to keep on creating new stuff and test our new ideas.

2.1. Advantages

2.1.1. Education has been greatly advanced by the technological advancement of computers.

2.1.2. Agricultural processes which required a lot of human workers can now be automated, which is cost-efficient for farmers.

2.1.3. Medical discoveries occur at a much more rapid rate, thanks to machines and computers that aid in the research process and allow for more intense educational research into medical matters.

2.1.4. As technology improves on existing processes and showcases new ways to accomplish tasks, machines are able to produce the same -- if not more -- output than humans in certain industries. This is cost efficient for business owners and contributes on a positive level to economy as a whole.

2.2. Disadvantages

2.2.1. The more advanced society becomes technologically, the more people begin to depend on computers and other forms of technology for everyday existence. This means that when a machine breaks or a computer crashes, humans become almost disabled until the problem is resolved.

2.2.2. Dependency on technology puts people at a distinct disadvantage, because they become less self-reliant.

2.2.3. Human workers retain less value, which is a disadvantage of technological advances.

2.2.4. As machines and computers become even more advanced and efficient, this will continue to be a growing disadvantage of technology and an issue that has a global impact.

3. What I thought it was?

3.1. Technology, according to me, was the advancement made by mankind in every field of life like the internet, new gadgets, medicine, automobile industry, shoe industry, space expeditions and what now. It is something that makes our lives easy and comfortable. I believe it is mostly because of the development in Sciences.

4. The definition of Technology

4.1. Definition - The branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science and pure science. The Collins English dictionary (2014) partially defines technology as "knowledge and skills available to any human society." Before such "knowledge" was available, communication across the globe was nonexistent. But due to innovation, technology has grown to enable us to create connections all across the globe.
