Legacy

Jeffersons' years were spent defending his legacy. Drafted and autobiography, created a political memorandum books. Became more interested with the preservation of historical documents. Defended his role of author of Declaration of Independence.  Closer to his death he wrote his achievements. Jefferson knew at his death that the changes of his life would leave physical/emotional harm.  His slaves, lands, and library would have to be sold to satisfy the people whom he owed money, considering the fact that he was in debt.  In DEBT: he purchased many things with a lot of money and with each purchase put himself deeper in debt. His fear for his reputation of his public legacy caused him to go to James Madison (closest friend) and plead him to "take care of me when dead." Died July, 4 1826.
