DanzActiva Dance School and Company

DanzActiva is a Puerto Rican dance company and school founded in 1998 by Paulette Beauchamp. It blends classical and popular forms to celebrate Puerto Rican culture through classes, performances, and events. Focused on inclusion, DanzActiva promotes self-esteem, cultural identity, and empathy, especially among people with functional diversity and limited resources.

1.2.1.2. A “multi-media” work that follows the structure of the photographic book PUERTO RICO MIO—four decades of change by our beloved adopted artist, Jack Délano. Through dance, theater, music, and masks, choreographer Beauchamp and her DanzActiva dancers establish a visual and dramatic contrast between the photos taken by Jack in 1940 and the (current) images of Puerto Rico in 1999, in transition toward a new millennium.

1.4.1.2. ENCOUNTER of feet, drums and skirts is a live music and dance journey from Puerto Rico to Spain, to India that re-creates the fascinating influences of the migratory route drawn by the Romany, from Northern India to Southern Spain (Andalusia)’, and from Andalusia into the New World. Puerto Rico being the last part of that route, is the beginning of this intercultural show created by choreographer Paulette Beauchamp and composer Bedoya.

This show featured young dancers with Down Syndrome, Autism and other developmental conditions, performing along with live Afro-Puerto-Rican Bomba drummers and singers (Paracumbé group), and invited professional dancers."The show opened with an actor on stilts, riding an almost-real horse, followed by dance and dramatic divertissements interwoven with magic illusions.

1.27.2.2. “Poesía en Cuerpo de Baile” is a multimedia project by DanzActiva that combines dance, live music, and screenings from DanzActiva’s podcast. It explores themes that blend poetry, music, theater, and dance, incorporating Kathak (and its Hindustani music) as well as popular music with contemporary dance. The event includes interviews with international and Puerto Rican artists, such as Luce López Baralt and Eladio Torres. The aim of this presentation is to promote an art form—little known in Puerto Rico—that is directly linked to literature, empowering young people to use similar tools when interpreting poetry.
