16. Holden feels that no matter what he does he is unable to protect the innocence of children. Even though he is repeatedly trying to shelter his sister.

17. Right after being expelled, Holden tells the reader that he believes himself to be a useless member of society. Yet he is not actual dumb.

18. After everything that has happened Holden is worried more about telling Phoebe that he has been expelled. Than being expelled itself.

19. Holden thinks that by seeing his sister go around and around on the merry-go-round, that she will be perpetualy innocent. Which was his goal.

20. Holden knows that he has a problem, yet he chooses to ignore it. So now that he is at least confronting it he an get over it.

21. Whenever Holden sees somthing being preserved, such as childhood innocence, he always wants to protect it. To try and root it in place.

22. Holden admits that he is not apathetic about everything. there are some things he cares about.

23. One of the first thing Holden complains about is is perception of life. That unless you put everything you got into one thing you are going nowhere.

24. If you do something too good, then, after a while, if you don't watch it, you start showing off. And then you're not as good any more. Pg.128

25. One reason Holden does not like to apply himself is that he feels that he will start to show off and be worse because of it.
