2. The Civil War began on April 12, 1861.
2.1. What caused the Civil War was the growing tensions between the northern and southern states about power of law rulings on slavery.
2.2. The reason this was an issue was that the southern states were more for slavery than that of the northern states who more were focused on non slavery.
2.3. Some of the central figures of the civil war were Gen. Robert E. Lee, Abraham Lincoln, and Camdus Wilcox.

2.3.1.1. Some of the effects of this war was it reunited the country, it decimated both the south and the north ,and cause the most deaths of Americans than any other war in U.S. history.

Some interesting facts about the civil war were that 1/3 of soldiers in the union army were freed slaves, Lincoln was almost assassinated 2 years prior to the assassination that will mark history, and the main cause of death during the Civil War was disease causing majority of the 625,000 deaths.

4.1. key writers from 1835–1845: Henry James and Edith Wharton.
4.2. Civil War literature included a variety of forms, from news of the frontlines, to accounts of emancipation, to patriotic songs and poems as well as countless works of fiction. This literature showed the violence and trauma of the Civil War.
4.2.1. Social and political issues during this era would have included the problems with enslaving Africans and granting their freedom, and the separation of the North and the South.
