1. 10. Intolerable Acts-Series of Punitive laws by the British Parliament after the Tea Party, meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their insubordinance.
2. 11.First Continental Congress-Meeting of delegates from 12 of 13 colonies that met in 1774 to debate the British Government and what should be done
3. 12. Second Continental Congress-Succeeded the First, managed colonial war effort and moved incrementally towards independence
4. 13. THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE-The reasons behind the colonists desire to declare independence from Britain
5. 1. French and Indian War- War against the French and Native Americans for the right to more land in America.
6. 2. Proclamation of 1763- Forbids all settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains, as the Native Americans lived past that line
7. 2. Sugar Act-Adds a tax to every pound or gallon of sugar sold.
8. 3. Stamp Act-Tax that demanded stamps be placed on all documents, both commercial and legal.
9. 4. Quartering Act-allowed British Soldiers to come into Colonists' homes and live there as long as needed.
10. 5. Sons of liberty-Secret Organization of colonists that was formed to protect the rights of colonists and fight taxes from the British government
11. 6. Townshend Acts- Series of acts passed by Britain in 1767 that applied to the American Colonies
12. 7. Daughters of Liberty-Group of Colonial women that displayed their loyalty to the cause by boycotting British goods following the Townshend acts
13. 8. Boston Tea Party-Political Protest in 1773 where the Tea Tax was boycotted and rioted in Boston
14. 9. Boston Massacre-Incident which British army soldiers killed 5 male civilians and injured 6 others.
