Audio Formats

1. MPEG-3
2. Mp3 is the abbreviation of MPEG Audio Layer 3. The .mp3 format has become the standard used for audio streaming and high quality compression because of the possibility of adjusting the quality of the compression proportionally to the seconds size.
3. Mp3 became popular because of its great possibility of being exchanged through the internet.
4. The principle of compression of mp3 format is based on the fact that the human ear is not able to hear all recorded audio frequencies.
5. The principle of compression of mp3 format is based on the fact that the human ear is not able to hear all recorded audio frequencies. MP3 files are created with encoders, which, by analyzing the information on the track for compression, extract the non-perceptible part for the ear, so the final compressed file is not very different from the original.
6. It’s supported by almost all the reproductor programs or portable audio players. ISO standard, part of MPEG specification. Quick encodings. Each person can create his own encoder/decoder.
7. It causes that people stop buying CD's because it is easier to download free the music from internet. The volume increases and decreases alone and sounds like static. Quality lost in all the format. Loses audio information what causes bad sound quality.
8. Some of the MP3 reproductors are iPods and other devices called MP3 players
9. Waveform
10. The term “waveform” it's the way in which the sound moves through space. It depends on the speed and frequency and volume.
11. One of the most important disadvantages of the WAV is that it can only achieve files of a capacity of 4 gb at most.
12. Thanks to this audio format that is not compressed it’s possible to have a high quality on the file, although it consumes too much space between 30 to 50 MB.
13. There are different types of compression and WAV it´s compatible with almost all the types, but the most usual types that use the Waveform Audio are the PCM and the ADPCM.

16. Musepack
17. Musepack is an audio compression format with emphasis on high quality. It is designed for transparency, so you won’t note differences between the real ones.
18. Recent inquiries about audio player options available to Musepackers have prompted this news item. Reminder: our Program Overview page, which lists several types of applications available on various operating systems and devices may prove useful.
19. Musepack is not particularly optimized for low bitrates. The encoder was designed to be transparent at the --standard setting, thus little low bitrate tuning has gone into the codec, opposite to that of AAC, Vorbis, WMA and others which focus more on this region. However, as can be seen on the following listening test pages, Musepack is always at the top: o ff123's 128 kbit/s group listening test o ff123's second 128 kbit/s group listening test o rjamorim's 128 kbit/s group listening test o rjamorim's second 128 kbit/s group listening test
20. The recently refreshed list includes players for Android such as Poweramp, Neutron Music Player, DeaDBeeF Player, Rocket Player and players for iOS: Pure Player, Media Player PRO and BUZZ Player.
21. Examples for Musepack's extraordinary quality at higher bitrates can be found on the "High Bitrate Tests" thread on Hydrogenaudio. It can be seen that Musepack had greater success providing indistinguishable results.

23. WAV is a audio format made in 1991, also a subset of the Microsoft RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format) which is a file container for storing. The format WAV is used to achieve audio files with the extension .wav. This audio file it's ideal to storing original audios.
24. MPEG-4 SLS
25. It is a format/method for using audio and video that is compressed without any loss of information. Also known as MP4.
26. The formats that make up a standard MP4 are: MP3, ACC and Apple Lossless (sound), MPEG-4, MPEG-4 and MPEG (video), JPG and PNG (image) and XMT and BT (subtitles).
27. - Video: MPEG-4, MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 - Audio: MPEG-4 AAC, MP3, MP2, MPEG-1 Part 3, MPEG-2 Part 3, CELP (voice), TwinVQ (very low bit rates), SAOL - Images: JPEG, PNG - Subtitles: MPEG-4 Timed Text, or the xmt / bt text format (means that subtitles have to be translated into xmt / bt) - Systems: Allows animation, interactivity and DVD-style menus
28. This is a standard that is under development for the distribution of multimedia content through networks, so it is more than a single codec and contains specifications for audio, video and interactivity.
29. Mp4 requires less system resources to encode and decode.
30. The video component is very similar to H.263, and is optimized for sending video to internet ratios. It has good image quality but is also under development.
31. Its compatibility with multiple media players like Real and QuickTime make them preferable to other, and more specific on their files. However, they can play back only archived content. You can't use them to stream live events. Also, MP4 files require you to wait for pre-buffering before viewing content, increasing the amount of time it takes to view the video as a whole and as well, it is hard to edit the content.

33. FLAC
34. -The audio format is similar to MP3 -It is an open format and is considered one of the most ‘widely supported lossless audio codec’. -Hardware support: Supported by dozens of consumer electronic devices, for example portable players or stereos.
35. -Its metadata system supports seek tables, cue sheets, cover art, tags, etc. -FLAC has frames (16-bit CRC each) that detect transmission errors. -It allows convert your data into another format when wanted. FLAC has a cue sheet metadata block, that it is used for storing all tracks and index points and all the content in the CD table. -It has a verify option, that helps noticing and aborting whenever there is an error (mismatch)
36. *It is compatible with Iphone and other portable music players (PMP) that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality. *FLAC is suitable for archiving *Real-time decode performance is fast. *The integrity of the audio will be always protected since a MD5 signature is stored in the file header, this may be used later when comparing during testing or decoding.
37. *Talking about allowing decoders ‘to pick up in the middle of a stream’,FLAC is slow and may have delays. *Many versions of FLAC are not quite developed that cause the lack of its distribution.
